The Switchback Team

Gretchen Sproehnle, a lifelong resident of North Lake Tahoe, began her career in graphic design in 1987 while a journalism student at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She began in advertising sales at the college newspaper but soon discovered she preferred creating and producing the ads over selling them, and was promoted to Production Manager before graduating in 1989.

After college, she returned to Tahoe and worked for a graphic design studio and a busy community printing shop. Here she learned not only the basics of design but also gained the practical knowledge of printing presses, paper and ink selection, and all phases of the printing process. In 1990, she was hired temporarily as Production Manager to launch the newspaper tabloid Sierra Ski Times, producing all graphic elements from the ground up. She then joined the sales and marketing staff at the Resort at Squaw Creek, where she was involved in the image-building and positioning activities of the property during the pre-opening and grand opening of the resort.

In 1991, she was hired as marketing assistant of Alpine Meadows, where she quickly moved up the ranks to become Communications Manager and then Advertising Manager of the ski resort. In this position, she was responsible for the creative direction of all the advertising, direct mail, and internet activities, as well as the production of brochures, newsletters, and virtually all printed material for the resort.

After the birth of her first daughter in 1998, she began to look for ways to spend more time at home yet stay in the business community of North Lake Tahoe and Truckee. She formed her own design and marketing company and has worked in this capacity for many Tahoe and Truckee clients since then.

She is knowledgeable on advertising strategic planning, all phases of print production, internet design and marketing, building promotions, and developing business identity. She enjoys copywriting and research and is particularly versed in Tahoe history. She is responsible and diligent, and has extensive expertise and knowledge of Tahoe, Truckee and the resort market. She is currently a Board Member and Public Relations Chair for the Tahoe-Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation.

She lives in Tahoe City with her husband, Rob, and daughters Emma and Olivia.
